Bruised Leo

Today Alma came from school – looking lost. Öne look at her face and I knew something was terribly wrong.

“What happened ?”

She showed me her bruised knee, bleeding and raw.

“Oops !” I went and that was the signal for the drill that happened on an autopilot.

A cold pizza was brought out of the refrigerator and put beneath Alma’s nose – the hot rice and chhole were forgotten. As she sat down to eat, Sitab ran and got a change of clothes for her. According to him they were ‘smart clothes – style wale kapde’.

And indeed they were ! A short denim mini-skirt , a magenta hooded T-shirt and red stockings. Obviously I did not have the heart to tell Sitab that red and magenta should never be mixed together, since they clash. I hugged him tight and told him that he is a darling little boy. Alma proceeded to change clothes, all the time ordering us to close our eyes. And we did. Half an hour later, bruises forgotten, Alma was her usual happy lion self.

Who said one needs pain-killers ? When you have a pizza, a mom and a brother waiting for you at home, what else does a hurt leo need to heal anyway ?
